SmarterImages uses a series of preset responsive breakpoints to load the appropriate image version, in tune with the user's viewport screen width.
As the page is accessed from a different device with a different resolution or the browser is resized, the image's source is replaced with an image with the fitting resolution and file size.
This avoids loading very large imagery on smaller devices and wasting bandwidth with lower quality graphics.
Webmasters can opt to deploy SmarterImages in case they want to allow users navigating a website to view graphics at the best quality for their device.
The plugin works with images displayed on the background of an element (via CSS), or embedded inline with the page (via HTML).
Developers can also easily modify and adapt the image replacement breakpoints, while also forcing aspect ratio to be respected.
